Tortilla Flat & Canyon Lake 2005
Heather and Katy joined us on an overcast August afternoon for a drive up to Canyon Lake and Tortilla Flat. About 30 minutes East of Mesa (where Heather & Katy live) is Canyon Lake, with long narrow canyons like Lake Powell, perfect for jet skiing. Then, two miles up the road is Tortilla Flat, an old stage coach stop with a restaurant and general store, plus a campground along the salt river across the street (which is dried up during the summer). Lining the walls of the restaurant are 40,000 dollar bills signed by visitors. Look for ours in the upstairs room, the dollar bill with the Mickey Mouse ears. The bar has saddles for bar stools, and the ladies bathroom gave Heather a chance to show off her legs. On the way back, we stopped by Goldfield, a restored ghost-town which has as it's backdrop the Superstition Mountains.
